Established in 1603, Shirley Plantation was Virginia's first plantation and is the oldest family-owned commercial enterprise in North America. Eleven generations of one family have lived there, and that same family continues to own and operate the plantation today. It's located in the heart of Virginia, about ten miles south of the Richmond International Airport on I-295. Visitors can tour the house and grounds, where they'll find centuries-old furnishings, paintings, and silver, plus artisan woodwork and the famous Flying Staircase.
